A new Touchdown Atlantic one of 2019 schedule highlights
TORONTO — The CFL released its much-anticipated 2019 game schedule on Thursday and one of the standout dates is in August where Touchdown Atlantic returns.
The CFL returns to Atlantic Canada on Sunday, August 25. The Toronto Argonauts will host the Montreal Alouettes in the first CFL game out east since 2013 and the first presented by the Atlantic Schooners, who are working to become the CFL’s tenth team.
Schooners Sports and Entertainment, a group of investors currently working on a stadium project in Halifax, will announce details on the Sunday August 25 game, including its location, in the new year.

“As the oldest professional sports team in North America and one of the most storied franchises in Canadian football, the Argos feel a special responsibility to grow our great game,” said Bill Manning, President of the Toronto Argonauts.
“That’s why we agreed to move one home game out east, to contribute to the momentum behind the Schooners’ bid to make a CFL dream come true by making ours a coast to coast league.”
Since 2005, the CFL has hosted five games in Atlantic Canada including two exhibition games in Halifax and three regular season games all taking place in Moncton, NB.
The Maritimes don’t officially have a team yet but they do have a team name. The prospective ownership group of a tenth CFL franchise announced during Grey Cup week in Edmonton last month that a future team in Atlantic Canada would be named the Atlantic Schooners.
The Schooners moniker was selected by fans who purchased season ticket deposits and participated in a Name the Team contest.
